HOLD UP! She did what ??

HOLD UP!
She Did What???

Yes ladies, you are seeing the above image correctly! This model is wearing her shirt BACKWARDS! At Spring Fashion Week '16 this was a trend that everyone was wearing from New York all the way to Paris. At first glance it looks a little odd, but I knew the minute I saw this trend it was something that I would be following.

First, let me give you all a little backstory as to how I came across this trend. So, I finally buckled down and made an ipsy account. (Which I highly recommend because I absolutely love it.) Anyway, I somehow managed to get signed up for a years supply of Glamour magazine. (Whoop de doo!) At first I had been tossing the magazine's to the side, but lately I've found myself anticipating next months arrival.

So this month, I'm flipping through the pages, completely interested in everything I'm seeing, then I come across this page with a woman wearing her button down BACKWARDS! As I'm sure you can imagine, my mouth fell to the floor and my eyes widened in shock. The first words to leave my mouth were, "HOLD UP! She did what???" and from there my blog post was born.

WARNING: This trend is NOT for the faint of heart!

Natalie Hartley, the fashion director for GLAMOUR, can be seen above rocking her button down backwards, and I must say she is killing it! The open back gives off a sexy vibe, and the necklace turned backwards adds a little bit more class to the look.

This style is definitely one that can only be pulled off by the most daring of fashionistas. It is a bold, exciting, and fun spin on the classic button down shirt. People may look at you a little weirdly upon first glance, but I'm more than positive after a while they will be giving you a saluting you for being able to rock such a unique outfit.

The best thing about this trend is that most of us already own the items necessary! It's almost a necessity that a woman has a button down in her wardrobe. To take this trend to the next level, pair your shirt with a pair of denim jeans. High waist jeans are one way to add a little flavor to your attire. Also, try black skinny legs jeans, and you could even add a pop of color by pairing your top with a pair of mustard high waist pants, shorts, or a pleated skirt.

Let me know what you guys think of this trend, and when I try it out I'll definitely be sure to post pictures.

As always...

WHO THE #%$! IS CARDI B???

WHO THE #%$!
IS CARDI B ???

If you're a Love&Hip Hop fanatic then I'm sure the name Cardi B rings a few bells. If not, by the time you finish reading this post, this feisty Bronx native is sure to be etched into your memory foreverrrr. (Only my Cardi fans understand that reference.)

Cardi B, born Belcalis "Cardi" Almanzar, is an ex-stripper turned rapper/internet sensation. And as we all know, with fame comes negativity. Words like "slut," "stripper," "ghetto," and "hoe" seem to follow and define the young artist.

But one word that I think best defines the wild, carefree entertainer; STRONG. In an exclusive interview with VLADTV Cardi explains how she used stripping as a means to escape domestic violence. At the time, she was living with her ex-boyfriend (who was abusing her) and was not making enough money to save up and move out. So she started stripping.

But while Cardi keeps a light and humorous outlook on her past life. She is not encouraging other girls to make the same decisions as she did. In fact on her song "Everything", which is on her first mixtape titled Gangsta B!tch Music Vol. 1, Cardi explains how hard it was for her growing up. She talks about wanting to become successful so her family will no longer have to suffer. She also recounts the haunting thoughts of having to "trick" herself just to eat.

"That's the sh*t I did and it really makes me weak

I would close my eyes dying for it to be over
The thought of a stranger inside I just can't be sober
Dirty a*s breath breathing all over my shoulder
And no b*tch gone tell you that just respect a soldier"

What I love most about Cardi is her willingness to be open and honest. She is a great example for women everywhere. Even if you haven't been faced with the same hardships as Cardi you can relate to her. She's a very raw and real person. I admire her strength, and I admire her courage to tell her story.

Her success and rise to fame inspires me daily. Not letting her past hold her back from her bright and promising future, Cardi stayed true to herself and rose to fame. From short 15 second rant and comedy videos, to a lead role on Love&Hip Hop, and even to dropping her first mixtape; Cardi is a force to be reckoned with. And what's even more inspiring, she uses her new-found fame as a platform to encourage girls to get their education, and follow their dreams. Cardi is a universal symbol of GIRL POWER

Continue to shine, Cardi B. Never let anyone stop you from chasing your dreams. This is only the beginning.

GET READY WITH ME: Simple Everyday Look

GET READY WITH ME:
A Simple Everyday Look

Today, I had to do a mock-interview for my senior seminar class, and I thought what better time to do a "Get Ready with Me?"
I used to rock this simple, glam look just about every single day of the week. Lately though, I haven't really been feeling the whole make-up thing. So toady as I was getting ready for this interview I figured, why the heck not?!

Hope you guys enjoy this tutorial.
First, you'll need to start with a clean, bright face. I usually use Mary Kay timewise cleanser and age-fighting moisturizer. But, I just purchased this new daily scrub by Garnier and I absolutely love it.

Next, I start with my face. The picture above shows my Crown Brushes (which are my favorite at the moment), my foundation and sponge wedge, face primer and concealer.
Once you've applied the foundation and concealer, you should look like this:
(( VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED!!!!! ))

Ahhhh ! Try not to get too frightened.

Moving on to the next step, eyebrows. My brows are my absolute favorite thing to do. Why? I don't really know, I just take pride in them.

Okay, so I know I said eyebrows, but we're going to be doing the eyes completely. Here I have my Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow pomade, which I absolutely LOVEEE! It honestly doesn't get any better than this when doing your brows.
I purchased this product last April, and I literally just ran. This stuff is from God himself.
Also, I have my L.A. Girl pro-concealer. I just started using this one, and honestly it's okay. It's great for the price, but I prefer my Mary Kay concealer in Bronze2.
The lashes are Demi Wispies natural lashes by Ardell.
And of course, my Mary Kay eye shadow palette.

When done correctly, your brows should look like this. Yasss honey!

The brown at the top left is the eye shadow I used for my eyelids.

Okay, now here's where it gets a little weird. This is my face after applying eye shadow, eyeliner, and lashes.
And also, I'm contouring. I tried something different this time and used my L.A. Girl concealer instead of a contour palette.
So contour your face based upon your facial structure. This is the method that I found works best for me.
I use Ben Nye Luxury powder instead of Banana powder to set my highlight.
I contoured with a darker L.A. Girl concealer.

Now for the finished product:

And there you have it, a simple, everyday look with KENYA.

KENYA FEEL WHY: He's NOT My Type

KENYA FEEL WHY:
He's NOT My Type

First dates always have the potential to be disastrous. You never know what to expect. It's easier if the guy is a sight for sore eyes, but he might also be the biggest a-hole you've ever met.

First dates are all about figuring out if he's meant for you. If you're lucky the date will go perfectly, and you'll be on your way to date number 2. If luck isn't on your side, you'll probably be SOS texting your girlfriend to come save you.

So why are first dates such a disaster? Are you blinded by looks? Charm? Sex appeal? Or maybe you simply just aren't asking the right questions. Here's a few first date questions that you should be asking to determine whether he's Mr. Right or Mr. Oh-So-Wrong.

1. What are the three most important things in your life?
Paul Hudson, a writer at Elitedaily, says this is the quickest way to find out what type of person you're dealing with. It is understood that you can tell a lot about a person based upon what they think is important.

If a guy is family-oriented he would obviously let it be known that family is indeed important to him. But, he might also neglect to mention his family, and say money instead. That alone should let you know run for the heels, girl!

2. What is your biggest goal in life?
By this age we should be dating seriously, and not casually. At this time we consider potential boyfriends to eventually become life partners. I mean I don't really know anyone dating and expecting it not to last. Therefore, it is important know what your date plans on accomplishing in the future.

You wouldn't want to date someone with no dreams or goals now would you?

3. Where do you plan to live (in the future) ?
This question may seem a little outlandish, but trust me you'll be glad you asked. If you're in college like me, it's important to know (before you jump into anything) where your potential mate plans on settling down to make a new life.

After college plans are really crucial and important so it's best to get that conversation out the way early on. You don't want to end up 9 months deep in a relationship only to find out he or she plans on moving across the country upon completing their degree.

And, I've learned the hard way that not everyone has the same plans as you. I've been placed in many situations where a guy I've been interested in does not want to relocate to the same city as me. Not only that, but they didn't want to live in a city at all. (I'm from the country, and sadly some people enjoy the quiet country life.)

These are just a few icebreaker questions that I have found to be very beneficial in separating the right guy from the wrong one. Eharmony has a ton of first date questions if you wish to check them out to keep the conversation going!

10 Things To Do Instead of Checking Your Phone

10 Things to do
Instead of Checking Your Phone

A wise man (Sreedhar Potarazu) once said social media is like a dangerous street corner kids can hang out on without ever leaving their rooms. Well, in so many words of course. But, the statement still holds true.

Practically everyone this day and age has a smartphone, and they're all glued to it. My two-year-old niece can operate Snapchat, and take selfies all by herself. Are kids really that advanced now? Or are we spending too much time on our phones?

I honestly think it's a little bit of both. We have become so dependent on cellular phones that we've forgotten how to actually interact as humans. Everything is so digital today.

What ever happened to hanging out on an actual street corner? What ever happened to riding bikes down the street to your friends house? What happened to lemonade stands ? Face to face conversations? Actually shopping in a department store ?

It's time we slowly start getting back to our old ways. I'm not saying completely do away with the cellphones, but at least for some part of your day take time to do something other than check your phone.

Below I've provided a list of 10 (really fun) things you can do instead of checking your phone.

1. Go watch a movie!
And no, I don't mean on Netflix. Actually get off of your couch, get out of your house and go watch a movie the old-fashioned way. Sure movie tickets are sky-high, popcorn prices are outrageous, and the person behind you keeps putting their feet on the back of your chair, but it'll be worth it in the end.

2. Go for a walk.
It's starting to get warmer outside, and it gives you an excuse to buy new running shoes. Who doesn't like Nikes? While you're walking take in the scenery around you. Take time to appreciate the things you see on your journey. Who knows you might accidentally walk into your future husband or something.

3. Work out.
Okay, so this kind of goes along with #2, but who cares? Spring Break is quickly approaching and there's no such thing as too much exercise when it comes to that new beach bod!

4. Rearrange your room/living room.
I'm all about the fung shui. It's like Spring cleaning 2.0. My mother makes a point to rearrange her living room every season to keep it "balanced" and "in harmony". Her words not mine people. So take the time to move some stuff around. You'll be surprised how great you feel afterwards.

5. Do-It-Yourself.
D-I-Y Projects are my absolute favorite. For the most part they don't take that long to complete, unless you're like reupholstering something, and they are tons of fun! Sometimes my roommates and I just get together and have a D-I-Y party. It's corny, but it's a great bonding experience. Don't know where to start? Pinterest has a ton of projects.

6. Study.
If you're a college student like me, there's nothing you want to do more than study. 'Cause studying is so fun, and learning is a beautiful thing. Can you see the sarcasm dripping from these words? No one wants to do it, but it has to be done so instead of picking up that phone, pick up a book. (Which brings me to my next item.)

7. Read a book.
A wise man once said, "if you want to hide something, put it in a book." I love reading. There's so much you can learn about different cultures, and history by just opening a book. There are also pretty entertaining by the way.

8. Find a hobby.
How do you know what you love to do if you never try anything? Put down that phone and find something you love.

9. Color.
I know what you're thinking, "I'm too old to color." Coloring is actually a growing trend among adults. It's stress-free and relaxing. So head down to the local Walmart and grab a coloring book along with a 74-pack of crayons (with the sharpener).

10. Spend time with your family and friends
Here's an idea; the next time you go out to eat with your family or friends place everyone's phone on ring and put them in the center of the table. The first person to grab their phone buys everyone dinner. No one is going to want to cover the bill, and conversation will be inevitable.

TOP 5 Swimsuits for Spring Break 2016!

Top 5 Swimsuits
for Spring Break 2016

Guess what ladies?! February is quickly coming to an end which can only mean one thing... SPRING BREAK IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER! Now while there are many Spring Break essentials that you need to make this years break one of a kind; there's one thing you CANNOT, WILL NOT, and absolutely under no circumstances, SHALL NOT forget. Your swimsuit!

If you're anything like me then you've already broke out the cases of water and began working on your swimsuit body way back at the beginning of last week. (Perfect timing right?) And if you're even more like me, you began searching for the perfect swimsuit way back on January 1st. Besides, nothing says "hello Spring" like the perfect bikini right?

So let's just say that you didn't start searching for that one of a kind swimsuit. Fret not, I am here to help!  I've come up with a list of my favorite swimsuits from Resort 16 Miami Swim Week, and if these suggestions don't help you determine which swimsuit is right for you, well then Jesus be with you!

The Cut-Out Bandage Two-Piece

The bandage swimsuit is a trend we've seen around for quite some time now. It's simple, yet sexy. There isn't much that needs to be done to this swimsuit, because it stands out on it's own. The only suggestion I would make is paring it with a floral kimono. Also, for cheaper swimsuit alternatives, try websites such as Forever21.com and goJane.com

Giving Me the Cold Shoulder
If there's one thing I learned about 2016 trends, it's that cold shoulders are the new 'black'. Nothing says sassy and sweet like a cold shoulder with a little bit of ruffles. This swimsuit is by Tori Praver, so it's a little on the expensive side. The good news? You can find cheaper alternatives at Target, 6pm, and Dillards.

Aztec/Tribal Print
Aliexpress is probably the holy grail of cheap swimsuits. No, really! I've bought many swimsuits from them in my day and haven't paid a cent over $13. They do ship from China so the shipping time is about 2 weeks, depending on where in the U.S. you live. Also, keep in mind that the sizes do run smaller. Whereas I wear a medium in the U.S., I wear a large over there. Back to the specifics though, this is a really unique swimsuit trend that I can definitely see taking over the beaches this Spring Break!

The Sheer One-Piece
This swimsuit is classy with a hint of sexy. I love this modern spin on the one-strap, classic one-piece. I think this is a great way to stay covered if you're not too confident with showing your midsection, but it also allows you to be flirty, fun, and sexy. This swimsuit can also be found at AMIClubwear.com which offers a variety of affordable swimwear.

Bold, Strappy, and Sexy
All the sexiness of a two-piece packed into a royal blue one-piece? Somebody pinch me, cause I've got to be dreaming! I saved this swimsuit for last because it is my absolute favorite. I can remember my first monokini, and my, my have they evolved since then. This swimsuit is grown and sexy. (Which is everything a swimsuit should be.) I found this gem at goJane, but I can guarantee you all the sites I've mentioned above have it. Pair this with a plain kimono, a daring gold head piece, or just simply wear as it. You'll be sure to turn heads.

So now you guys have seen my Top 5 swimsuits for Spring Break. Now, GO SHOP!!!!

Girls Go to College to Get More KNOWLEDGE !

Girls Go to College
To Get More Knowledge

I cannot express how important it is to receive higher education.  I cannot express how important it is to be an educated woman in this world. Gone are the days were women are housewives and stay-at-home moms. Welcome to the days where women can band together and become successful entrepreneurial businesswomen.

From the time I started college I knew I wouldn't graduate with the people I started with. My first day of orientation they told us, "Look to your left, now look to your right. The people you're sitting next to right now probably won't be here next semester." That statement could not have rang more true.

By the time my second semester of college rolled around I lost about three friends. By the time my second year of college came around all I had left were three friends. I realized pretty early on in my career that college was not a place to play around and party. I came to the understanding that college was a breeding ground and a learning experience. I've learned things in college that I could not have learned anywhere else.

When God gives you knowledge he intends for you to share it with those around you. So that's exactly what I did. A good friend and I flew out to Chicago (courtesy of Steve Harvey) by ourselves to have a best friend intervention. About what you may ask? Well, higher education of course. (Check out the video here in case you missed it.)

Unfortunately, Skylar did not return to Troy University, but I can guarantee you she will never forget the words of wisdom Mr. Harvey and I both bestowed upon her.

I understand that most people don't think that college is for them. I understand that college is expensive. Trust me, I know first hand! I also get that you can learn, network, and prosper without going to college, but this is a time that you'll never forget. These are the years that shape and mold you into the person that you are to be. And in the words of Mr. Steve Harvey himself, "college is just showing [future employers] that you can start something and finish it."

Are you aware that college sets you up with an instant network? If I hadn't been in school, it would be very hard for me to get where I am today. I currently work with my school's radio station as an on-air talent, and producer. Now, granted I could've walked into a studio and talked my way into a job, but God made it a little easier for me. My radio/TV teacher saw something in me that he and recommend me for the job. See what I mean about an instant network?

Also, did you know that currently the pay gap between persons holding a high school diploma versus a college degree is almost $20,000? So you mean to tell me that you're willing to possibly miss out on an extra $20,000 because you didn't want to pursue a college degree? Not only that, but now most potential employers require you to have a degree!

(Check out rapper, Dee1's video about paying Sallie Mae back.)

But Kenya, college is too expensive! You're telling me?! I owe Sallie Mae almost $20,000 back in student loans already, but there are such things as loans, scholarships, and grants. Also, consider the fact that this degree will also allow you to find a good paying job which puts you in the position to pay back your student loans.

Before you completely cross college off your list consider the pro's and con's.

PROS:
-lifelong friends
-experience like no other
-instant network
-preparation for the real world
-learning to live on your own
-professional/mentoring relationships
-hands on experience
-most employers require a degree

CONS:
-sky high tuition
-student loans
-some people aren't ready
-you can network on your own
-early classes
-student meal plans

Well, as you can see, the pros definitely outweigh the cons. So before you just up and decide college isn't for you, consider these factors. Remember, if I can do it so can you!

P.S. Graduation coming in May, JUST WAIT ON IT!
